Quick Tip: Making Template Head Items Editable

By default, items added to the head section of a template page are not editable in pages created from the template, though the default three head items (the document encoding, the GoLive "generator" meta tag and the document title) are editable. It isn't too difficult to make head items editable, however.

Step 1:
Create your template as normal.

Create the Template

Step 2:
In the Template Regions palette menu, uncheck "Selection defines regionname". Name your regions as you create them instead. This avoids any issues with the head item editable region name being renamed when the template is edited.

Step 3:
Build the page and editable regions as normal.

Step 4:
Open the head section of the template and create the head items you require. If you have a mix of head items, some of which should be editable and some not, its best to arrange those that should be editable and those which should not together in the head section.

Step 5:
Now, switch to source (or use split view). You need to create editable region markers around the head items which you want to be editable in the pages you create from the template. The easiest way to do that is to copy and past the markers from an existing body editable region then change it name.

Step 6:
Save the template. Pages created from the template will have the head items you created an editable region around available for editing.
